‘A vigil for all women threatened on our streets’
The London vigil aimed at making London’s streets safer for women will take place on Clapham Common bandstand at 6pm on Saturday.
Organisers have said that the London vigil ‘Reclaim These Streets’ is “for women and about women, but open to all.”

The vigil was organised on Facebook following the disappearance of 33-year-old Sarah Everard in Clapham last Wednesday.
Organisers have said that all attendees must wear a mask and observe social distancing.
Streets should be safe for women regardless of what we wear, where we live or what time of day or night it is.

On Facebook, the organisers said: “We believe that streets should be safe for women, regardless of what you wear, where you live or what time of day or night it is.
“We shouldn’t have to wear bright colours when we walk home and clutch our keys in our fists to feel safe.
“It’s wrong that the response to violence against women requires women to behave differently. In Clapham, police told women not to go out at night this week.
“Women are not the problem.”
Similar vigils are taking place in other parts of the UK, including Cardiff, Walthamstow, Margate and Southend-on-Sea.
The event organisers have called for people to come forward to organise vigils in their local area.
Good morning! Your response on here has been incredible, and we've had so many women get in touch to share their stories or to organise their own #ReclaimTheseStreets event in other parts of the UK, from Cambridge to Cardiff to Liverpool and St Andrews
