Overwatch voice actress allegedly murdered, one man currently in custody
Christiane Louise’s death was announced on August 6 by fellow voice actor Tupinambá Filho. Now, Brazilian Police has arrested a man in connection with her murder.
Posting to Instagram, Filho wrote: “It is with a bleeding soul that I announce the departure of Christiane Louise. I love you forever, Zinha.”
Louise has worked in the industry since 1994 and had since lent her voice to countless iconic characters. She voiced Halo’s Cortana, an artificial intelligence character that acts as the players guide and mentor throughout the series. She also voiced Mercy in the popular online multiplayer Overwatch and the titular character Bayonetta in the Japanese hack and slash series.
The suspect, Pedro Paulo Gonçalves Vasconcellos da Costa, is currently behind held in custody under suspicion of murdering Louise on July 22 in her home in the south of Rio. It was reported at the time that the cause of death was multiple stab wounds.
Leandro Costa, the lead investigator on the case, told Brazilian newspaper O Globo that Pedro Paulo eventually confessed to the killing despite claiming it was self-defence, as Louise was “possessed by the devil”. Detective Costa also believes that Pedro Paulo was assisted by his mother and an unidentified person of interest. His mother, Eliane Gonçalves Vasconcellos da Costa, is currently still on the run and wanted by the police.
Fans of Louise have taken to social media to pay tribute to the actor:
“Taken too soon by another’s greed, especially when making it as a voice actor for such big name characters, and the coward had the gall to say it was self defense,” writes Adam beneath the video above.
“You have earned your rest sister rip.”
