Man trapped in wall of New York theatre for two days – completely naked

The man is now being treated at a local hospital.

A man has been rescued after being trapped inside the wall of a theatre in the US.

Firefighters were called to the Landmark Theatre in Syracuse, New York state, at around 07.30 on Friday morning after someone was heard banging on the wall and crying for help.

Syracuse.com reports that once they cut through the theatre’s walls they found him naked.

In a statement on social media, the Syracuse Fire Department wrote: “Theatre employees called 911 after hearing someone banging on the wall and yelling for help. It is believed that the person, an adult male, entered the theatre 2-3 days ago. It is not clear how exactly he gained access to the area behind the wall.

Rescuers used a “fiber-optic camera to determine his exact location and how to best extricate him.” They were then “able to free the individual after carefully cutting through several layers of drywall and structural clay tile.”

The man was then taken to Upstate University Hospital.

The man is thought to have a mental illness. He had been seen wandering around the theatre earlier in the week, according to the executive director of the theatre, Mike Intaglietta.

Employees lost track of him though and assumed he had left the building.

“I don’t know if he was entering to keep warm or to use the bathroom. I don’t know,” Intaglietta said.

Syracuse Fire Deputy Chief John Kane said that the 39-year-old man had actually got into a crawl space in the building, where he remained for two days before falling into a space in the wall of the men’s bathroom and becoming trapped.

Police said that the man would not be charged or identified.
