United fans are already calling for his return
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly being considered by Manchester United as a potential replacement for Erik ten Hag.
Ten Hag was sacked by the club this morning after defeat to West Ham yesterday left them in 14th in the Premier League table.
A whole host of potential replacements have emerged with former England manager Gareth Southgate one of the favourites to succeed the 54-year-old.
Spaniard, Xavi Hernandez has also been heavily linked with the position in recent days but United could have their options restricted to managerial free agents.
Concerns have emerged within the United camp over the feasibility of purchasing a coach’s release after it was revealed Erik ten Hag’s exit could cost the club £17m.
Solskjaer managed United between 2018 and 2021 but has been out of work since his Old Trafford departure.
In the interim, Solskjaer’s ex-teammate Ruud van Nistelrooy is set to step in as caretaker manager while the club searches for Ten Hag’s full-time successor.
United fans have already approved the idea with fans taking to X to share their opinions.
One fan simply wrote: “Now bring back Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.”
Another said: “Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is ten times better than Ten Hag, bring him back to United.”
Solskjaer is not the only former manager linked with a sensational return to Old Trafford.
Fans have also thrown their support behind Jose Mourinho who managed the Red Devils prior to Solskjaer.
