There’s oversleeping and then there’s this
A man has woken up from a coma convinced he was in 1980 and that he’s 24-years-old.
The inception-esque incident happened in Italy to 68-year-old Luciano D’Adamo who was hit by a car in 2019 and endured a five-year long coma.
However, it would appear that the terrible accident erased 39 years of memories with the last thing he remembered being leaving his house in Rome in 1980, before feeling a blow and seeing darkness.
Il Messaggero reported Luciano first realised his memory had been lost when he saw his wife was not the 19-year-old girl he remembered from his youth, but had aged into a “stranger”.
He said: “She called me Luciano and I wondered how she knew my name.”
The Italian was also stunned to see his son now a grown man in his 30s, many years older than he saw himself.
Luciano had to relearn everything that came with the modern world since the 80s, including smartphones, the internet and other technology.
Although, the worst thing for Luciano was seeing an old man in the mirror while thinking he was still a young man.
The former school caretaker is now being helped by doctors and his family to find his feet again in the modern world.

He told the outlet: “I still remember the amazement of traveling in a car that showed me a map of Rome on a screen, or rather the Tuttocittà as we once called it, while a voice said, ‘In 100 meters turn right’.”
Talking about his future ambitions Luciano said: “Sometimes I say that I would like to fly on a plane, I have never done it.
“My wife says to me, ‘What are you talking about? We were in Paris together’. And I reply, ‘You have been there, I haven’t’.”
There is hope still for Luciano who is working with doctors and psychologists to try and recover as many of his memories as possible.
He has never received compensation from the incident as the driver who hit him was never found.
