The lights could appear in the skies again
The Met Office has given an update on the chances of the Northern Lights being visible in the UK tonight.
Brits across the country were treated to a dazzling display on Friday (May 10) as the lights – which are also known as the Aurora Borealis – could be seen as far south as London.
This was thanks to a huge geomagnetic storm which hit Earth in the form of four coronal mass ejections (CMEs) from the Sun.
The strength of the storm means that it will persist into Saturday night, meaning that the lights could be visible again.
Of course, this is reliant on a few factors, not least the need for clouds to stay away.
On Saturday afternoon, the Met Office gave an update on how likely it is that Friday’s spectacular lights will be repeated.
In a post on social media, the forecaster said: “Although geomagnetic activity is not expected to be as strong tonight, there’s still a good chance of aurora sightings, especially across the northern half of the UK.
“There could be some visibility further south, especially with long-exposure cameras.”
There are a few things you can do to increase your chances of seeing the lights, such as heading to a open, dark area away from light pollution, and using a camera to try and see the aurora.
