Morrisons say ‘The wording on the packaging is an error for which we apologise. We are changing the packaging immediately’
Supermarket chain Morrisons has apologised after advertising a “roast-in-the-bag” chicken with “non-EU salt”.
Customers expressed upset with the salt and pepper chicken crown (700g) which was described as being “made from British chicken and non-EU salt and pepper”.
The £4 chicken found itself at the centre of the Brexit divide last night (November 1) with shoppers threatening to withdraw all future custom.
Customers who support a closer union with the EU were particularly upset.
One Twitter user said: “Tell me @Morrisons that this is not real. Your response will dictate whether or not I ever shop at your stores again”

Another angry Morrisons’ customer replied: “I’m done with shopping @Morrisons.. I can live with union flags on bananas, but the gratuitous slight on the EU is too much..”
A third described the packaging as “pathetic” and told Morrisons to: “Stick your Chicken where the sun don’t shine.”
One disappointed shopper said “I shan’t be darkening your Brexity threshold ever again”.
It’s not the first time Morrisons have found themselves at centre of food furore.
In 2019, the chain were mocked for renaming Brussels sprouts after the areas of the UK in which they were grown.
Customers described the packaging as “patriotism gone mad” and a symptom of Brexit Britain.

A spokesperson for the supermarket said they were changing the packaging “immediately” and apologised for the error.
