At least 25 women and girls are said to have been ‘systematically raped’ in the city of Bucha
Ukrainian authorities have said nine women and girls are now pregnant following reports of Russian soldiers raping females in the city of Bucha.
Ukraine’s commissioner for human rights, Lyudmyla Denisova, said a group of women totalling at least 25 were repeatedly and “systematically raped” in the basement of a home being occupied by Vladimir Putin‘s troops.
The female victims, said to be aged between 14 and 24, were abused in the basement of a Bucha house, where numerous atrocities have already been reported in recent weeks.
Local officials have confirmed that nine of those subjected to the sexual abuse have now fallen pregnant, with Denisova adding that “Russian soldiers told them they would rape them to the point where they wouldn’t want sexual contact with any man, to prevent them from having Ukrainian children.”
As per the BBC, one woman reportedly told the politician that she was forced to watch as her 16-year-old sister was raped in the street in front of her whilst the soldier shouted, “This will happen to every Nazi prostitute”.
Bucha is, of course, not the only region to have witnessed such horrific war crimes, with President Zelenskyy branding acts of terror in the likes Mariupol, Kramatorsk, Kyiv and many more as “genocide“.
As well as young women being targeted by Russian forces, an elderly woman and an 11-year-old boy are also reported to have been raped, with partners and relatives tied to chairs and forced to watch.
According to the UN’s best estimates, the invasion is thought to have caused more than 4,450 civilians casualties and at least 1,892 deaths – 71 of which were children.
