North Wales newspaper’s headline for William and Kate’s baby news has gone down a storm

'Adore the headline'

Simon Lloyd

Kensington Palace announced on Monday morning that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting their third child.

Clearly, a new Royal Baby is major news – both on a national and international scale. It’s also a pretty big deal on Anglesey – the Welsh island the couple called home while William served as a helicopter pilot at RAF Valley.

With this in mind, it’s no surprise to learn that the local media in North Wales have run a few stories on the news. One in particular, appearing in the North Wales news section of the Daily Post, has been widely shared across social media for its choice of headline.

Deliberately keeping William’s royal title out of the headline, the article is entitled ‘Former Anglesey helicopter pilot expecting third child’.

The headline quickly received praise from many of those reading it…

Although naturally, not everyone saw the funny side…

A statement confirming the news was released by Kensington Palace after it emerged Kate had been forced to cancel a public appearance. It read:

‘Their royal highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that the Duchess of Cambridge is expecting their third child.

The Queen and members of both families are delighted with the news.

As with her previous two pregnancies, the Duchess is suffering from Hyperemesis Gravidarum.’
