The secret to a long and happy life?

An 111-year-old woman who is now the oldest person in Spain has shared the secret to her long life.

Angelina Torres Vallbona, who lives in a flat in Eixample, Barcelona and is just two months from her 112th birthday has claimed she has never been sick.

She became the oldest person in Spain after the passing of Maria Branyas, also from Catalonia who died last August at the age of 117.

Angelina told EFE that there is, in fact, “no secret” to her remarkably long life, reports Andalucía Información.

She revealed that she simply enjoys a daily breakfast consisting of ‘a glass of water with a few drops of lemon and a teaspoon of sugar’.

While there are health concerns around sugar, there are several benefits when it comes to lemon juice.

The fruit is a good source of vitamin C, with research showing foods rich in the nutrient can reduce your risk of heart disease and stroke.

They also help prevent Anemia by improving the absorption of iron from plant foods.

She added that she also enjoyed taking long walks when she was able to and strived to be “friends with everyone” according to Surrey Live.

The 111-year-old, who spent Christmas with her growing family, said she was ‘lucky’ to meet her great-grandchildren, describing them as ‘handsome’.

She also highlighted that she had seen the Basílica de la Sagrada Família ‘grow stone by stone’, adding that it ‘turned out beautiful’.

Finally, the Spaniard said she ‘had many friends’ who ‘loved me a lot’ and that she ‘laughed a lot’ and enjoyed spending time with family.
