Some are calling it a ‘divine intervention’.
Paris has been hit by a large power outage just hours before day two of the Olympic Games is due to get underway.
Several social media users posted pictures overnight of what appears to be a ‘blackout’ across parts of the city.
Widespread Power Outages tonight across several Districts in the French Capital of Paris. What caused the Outages is still unclear though reports are suggesting a possible Cyber-Attack or Sabotage similar to yesterday’s Arson Attack on the French Rail Network. pic.twitter.com/uzYyZ2vMR6

The electrical disruption seems to have been brought about by relentless and torrential rain, but some are suggesting it could be linked to the group of ‘vandals’ who brought the city’s rail network to a halt yesterday morning.
France’s national rail company SNCF described the events as a “co-ordinated sabotage” on French infrastructure as the country was preparing to commence their hosting of the Olympic Games.
While nobody has claimed responsibility for the attacks, given their scale and precision the French authorities are treating them as more than just random acts of vandalism.

Now, several X users have taken to the platform to post videos and pictures of the city, suggesting that Paris has been left in darkness after a supposed ‘blackout’.
While none of these reports have been confirmed by an official authority, speculation is rife as to what the cause of the apparent power failure might be.
Some are suggesting that it is divine intervention, following an opening ceremony which certain viewers deemed ‘blasphemic’.
One prominent Catholic Bishop labelled it a “gross mockery” while someone on social media declared: “The Olympics has made it clear that Christian viewers aren’t welcome.”
The criticism surrounded scenes of transgender performers seemingly appropriating the Last Supper, along with a rather disturbing scene involving a headless woman singing – an image some viewed as being evidence of ‘satanic worship’.
One X user pointed out that while much of the city fell into darkness, the light from the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus continued to shine brighly.

After yesterday’s blasphemous Olympic ceremony, could there be a more fitting symbol of how the light of Christ can’t be overcome by the darkness? pic.twitter.com/RIV7MK7z6e

Heavy showers wreaked havoc on the opening day of the Games, forcing several sporting events to be postponed.
Coverage and images from around Paris showed people donning ponchos and carrying umbrellas, while top tennis stars including Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz had their games held up as many matches were washed out and delayed on Friday.
The men’s street skateboarding competition was also postponed and rescheduled for Monday as the grounds were waterlogged.
