Barry Chuckle would have been 80 today
Paul Chuckle has paid an emotional tribute to his late brother and comedy partner Barry on what would have been his 80th birthday.
The brothers, real names Paul and Barry Elliott, were the much-loved comic double act the Chuckle Brothers. The pair were best known for their children’s TV programme ChuckleVision, which aired from 1987 to 2009.
Sadly, Barry died in August 2018 at the age of 73. Almost every year since, Paul has shared a tribute on social media to his brother on Christmas Eve, which was his birthday.
This year would have seen Barry reach a milestone age, and shortly after midnight, Paul once again remembered his beloved partner in crime.
He wrote on X: “Today would have been Barry’s 80th birthday .. miss you Baz.”
In the comments, many also remembered the late comedian, and sent their love and thoughts to Paul.
One person wrote: “My sincere thoughts, from me, to you. He’ll always be remembered. Extremely fondly.”
Another said: “You both were a massive part of my childhood. Happy Birthday Baz thank you for the memories.”
A third penned: “Barry was such a lovely person and a legend! Never forgotten, big hugs Paul x”
And, in a nod to the Chuckle Brothers’ iconic catchphrase, someone else said: “Happy birthday to you…. To me.”
The duo were pantomime stalwarts during the festive season.
On Christmas Eve 2019, Paul revealed the touching gesture he would do every year for his brother on December 24.
He wrote: “In panto at the end of the second show, I would always organise the cast to sing Happy Birthday to him on stage along with the audience.”
Earlier this year, Paul shared a touching tribute to Barry on the sixth anniversary of his passing.
