The worst day for this to happen.

Major banking providers have confirmed issues with their online banking systems today, resulting in tens of thousands of customers getting locked out of their accounts.

Service outage site DownDetector showed a spike in the number of issues reported with Lloyds Bank, Halifax, Nationwide, TSB, Bank of Scotland and First Direct.

Nationwide and First Direct both confirmed issues with their online banking systems on social media, leaving many customers unable to access their money.

Lloyds Banking Group confirmed the problems in response to a customer query on X.

The post read: “We know some of our customers are having issues logging on to internet banking and our app. We’re sorry for this, and we’re working to get everything back to normal.”

One Lloyds banking customer wrote: “I need to pay my credit card today payments are due 1st of each month I can’t do it as can’t log into my online banking account! What is going on? 1st Barclays has a national outage now this?”

First Direct also acknowledged it posting: “We understand some customers are having issues making payments right now. We’re really sorry and are investigating as a matter of urgency. We will share an update as soon as possible.”

The problem was flagged by customers at around 8am this morning, when customers noticed issues accessing their online banking and making payments.

More than 4,200 Lloyds banking customers have logged issues on DownDetector, while around 3,4000 Halifax customers reported issues.

Over 800 Nationwide customers reported issues this morning, with problems starting earlier at around 7:30am. TSB had over 800 reports, while First Direct had 400 reports on DownDetector.
