Nigel seems to have forgotten about his past comments
Nigel Farage is once again doing the rounds on social media as his tweet congratulating Emma Raducanu seems a bit rich given some of the quotes he’s made in the past.
After Raducanu won the US Open, the 57-year-old ex-politician turned Cameo creator and GB News presenter posted a simple tweet, but the rest of Twitter simply wasn’t having it.
In an interview Farage stated…
" I was asked if a group of Romanian men moved in next to you, would you be concerned? And if you lived in London, I think you would be"
Emma's father is Romanian
The hypocrisy is off the scale. https://t.co/HhnKnBio9h

These quotes come from an interview he gave back in 2014, when Farage was discussing Romanian immigration on LBC radio. He faced mass criticism at the time and the comments and the casual xenophobia is just as uncomfortable now as it was then.
You can see the full interview with James O’Brien down below:
I think you can trace Brexit back to the way everyone (even the Mail) was briefly appalled by this before popping him back in his pulpit of hate. The bit where Farage snarls “you know the difference” between German & Romanian neighbours is still disturbing https://t.co/jftkpumkPN

Meanwhile, though it seems he may have found it easy to put his prejudices aside to get in on the victory parade, the general public hasn’t forgotten so easily.
Piers Morgan and Nigel Farage hailing Emma Raducanu’s victory is the very definition of shamelessness.

If you’ve ever said anything bad about Romanians, if you’ve ever said anything supportive of Farage, don’t you *dare* try to bask in the glory of Raducanu.

Ignoring his own hypocrisy, Farage and his co-presenters when on to discuss Raducanu’s victory on GB News, with those on the broadcast labelling the story as “the most extraordinary story I’ve ever seen in sport“. It’s almost as if the immigration that the likes of Farage fears so much makes us culturally richer and simply better as a United Kingdom.
It’s also worth reminding that this is the same man who tried to convince the British public there was a ‘summer invasion’ on immigrants going on, despite the UK taking in just 29,456 people seeking asylum – less than Canada.
