Businessman Philip Green obtained an injunction to prevent media from publishing sexual harassment allegations
Parliament today named Philip Green as the man at the centre of Britain’s #MeToo scandal. The businessman obtained a privacy injunction to prevent the media publishing allegations by former employees.
Green, 66-years-old, is the Chairman of Arcadia Group, which owns high street fashion brands such as Burton, Topman, Topshop, Dorothy Perkins and Wallis.
Lord Peter Hain, the former Leader of the House of Commons, said that he felt a “duty” to reveal the name under parliamentary privilege.
The Labour peer told the House of Lords: “Someone intimately involved in the case of a powerful businessman using non-disclosure agreements and substantial payments to conceal the truth about serious and repeated sexual harassment, racist abuse and bullying which is compulsively continuing, I feel it’s my duty under parliamentary privilege to name Philip Green as the individual in question given that the media have been subject to an injunction preventing publication of the full details of this story which is clearly in the public interest.”
