Police have closed a probe into potential blackmail related to leaked images of Wayne Rooney and a group of women after a night out.
Images emerged this week of Derby County manager Rooney partying with model Tayler Ryan and her friends on a night out, believed to be last Saturday.
Rooney is understood to have told police that he was at the centre of a blackmail plot, but Cheshire Constabulary have confirmed that they are not investigating any of the women pictured with the former Manchester United player.
Rooney told police he had received a message following the night out, which read: “Morning Wayne 10 grand please mate or Coleen sees this.”
It’s understood police have spoken to the person involved who, according to a report in the Daily Mail, “does not want to take the matter any further”.
Following the emergence of the images, which do not suggest any wrongdoing on Rooney’s behalf, with a source close to his wife Coleen stating that she would stand by her husband during what was described as a stitch-up.
“Coleen is fully behind him. She feels he’s been the victim of a stitch-up,” the source said.
“She has spoken to him and is entirely backing his version of events. They are rock solid.”
Derby County kick off their Championship campaign on August 7, but will have to do so without star midfielder Jason Knight, who will miss up to 12 weeks with injury after reportedly being tackled by Rooney during a training session.
