Police have given an update on the disappearance of former X Factor star and rugby player Levi Davis.

Davis, who appeared on the celebrity edition of the X Factor in 2019, disappeared in Spain on October 29, 2022, during a visit to Barcelona.

The former Bath winger was last seen leaving The Old Irish Pub on La Rambla, and had also sent his mum a video message from a ferry on the day he went missing.

Now, police have said the missing persons case has no new leads, two years on from his disappearance.

A court investigation stalled last year after a police search in the port of Barcelona. The search had been sparked by fears Davis was the man spotted by crew on a passenger cruise liner in difficulty in the water.

Court officials confirmed on Friday that their probe remained suspended and would only be reactivated if new information came to light.

Police have also said they had no plans to use the two year anniversary of his disappearance to appeal for new information.

According to the Mirror, this was because they said they have “nothing new to offer.”

A spokesperson for the investigating magistrate at the city court which had been probing Davis’ disappearance said on Thursday (24 October): “There are no updates in this case. It’s still provisionally archived.”

The Mossos d’Esquadra, the Catalan police force Levi’s disappearance was reported to, also said: “Our investigation remains open but we have nothing new we can tell you about.

“There are no plans for a public appeal for information coinciding with the second anniversary of Levi’s disappearance.”

And a police source added to The Mirror: “No one is actively working on this case police-wise or in the courts on a day-to-day basis. That doesn’t mean police won’t look into any new information that comes their way. But the last big push was 17 months ago with the port searches.”

Another source said: “The lead theory is that Levi drowned but proving that now is virtually mission impossible.”

Davis’ family are said to have been in talks earlier this year to make a documentary about his disappearance, with the aim of shedding light on what haoppened.

A close source to his mum, Julie, was quoted in May saying she had been approached by a production company, adding: “We are waiting for the opportunity that affords the best chance of finding out what happened.”

Davis was a part of a celebrity version of The X Factor in 2019 alongside fellow rugby players Ben Foden and Thom Evans.

The group formed a band called Try Star on the show, finishing in fifth place. After that, he also appeared on reality show Celebs Go Virtual Dating.
