A beloved beach at a British holiday hotspot has been evacuated
A beach in Cornwall has been evacuated after a huge cliff broke off and fell off onto the sands below.
The Mirror reports that there were people set up with windbreaks and tents on the beach just below where the incident occurred.
“We’ve cordoned off part of Great Western Beach in Newquay after a cliff fall,” Cornwall council tweeted.
“Please stay away from the area while we carry out inspections and make the area safe.”
It’s not the first time that Newquay beach has been plagued by cliff falls. Surveys have indicated the issue is going to continue.
It has been crumbling since November, and worsened over the winter months.
People have been flocking to the UK coast over the last week as the country has finally seen some warm, summery weather.
The mercury set to hit highs of 29C on Monday, with areas in the north and west of the country to expect 26C.
Temperatures look set to peak on Tuesday, with temperatures of 32C in London. Elsewhere, Brits can expect to see slightly lower highs of 27C.
The Met Office has warned that the good weather is not set to continue.
Thunderstorms are set to hit the UK, with a yellow weather warning in place for southern and nothern England, as well as the Midlands.
“Heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop on Thursday and may lead to some disruption,” the Met Office said.
