It has been reported that the 99-year-old used to tell the Queen that he wanted his body be ‘stuck’ in the back of a Land Rover and taken to Windsor when the royal couple discussed his funeral plans.
According to the Mail on Sunday, Prince Philip once told the Queen during a discussion about his funeral: “Just stick me in the back of a Land Rover and drive me to Windsor.”
The modified Land Rover is believed to be a modified Defender 130 Gun Bus, which was reportedly commissioned in 2005.
In 2016, Foley Specialist Vehicles said it delivered a completely rebuilt Gun Bus to Prince Philip for use on his various estates.
The vehicle will process through the grounds of Windsor castle before Prince Philip’s funeral at St George’s Chapel.
The Queen has approved the final plans for the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral, it has been revealed.
Buckingham Palace confirmed on Twitter that “the plans for the funeral are in line with His Royal Highness’s own personal wishes.”
A limit of 30 guests will apply to the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral due to ongoing coronavirus restrictions.
Plans for his funeral come after Buckingham Palace made the announcement on Friday morning that Prince Philip had passed away at the age of 99 with the Queen by his side.
