Queen to permanently leave Buckingham Palace after recovering from covid

The Queen has been living at Windsor Castle throughout the pandemic

The Queen is reportedly set to make Windsor Castle her permanent residence, meaning that she will never return to Buckingham Palace or the capital.

Her Majesty and Prince Philip had moved to Windsor at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, before the Duke of Edinburgh’s passing in April last year.

It is understood that the Queen has “no plans” to return to Buckingham Palace, having spent the past two Christmases at Windsor.

The Sunday Times reports that this means the next royals to move into the London residence will be Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles, when Charles becomes king.

Royal author Hugo Vickers told the paper that Windsor is closest to the Queen’s heart and is the place she “loves,” and that it “makes sense” for her to stay their permanently.

He said: “She has her memories with Prince Philip there, she has her ponies there and family nearby.”

What’s more, the Queen also spent much of her childhood at the Berkshire residence, no-doubt leaving it full of memories of years gone by. When she passes, it will be where she will be buried, alongside her husband Prince Philip in King George VI’s memorial chapel.
