He has since admitted his words weren’t ‘smooth or polished’
A Republican candidate from Michigan has sparked outrage after saying that he tells his daughter to “lie back and enjoy it” if they think they are about to be raped.
Robert Regan, also known as ‘RJ’, is running for a state House seat in Michigan and made the comments on Sunday during a Facebook livestream hosted by conservative group The Coalition to Rescue Michigan.
The candidate used the analogy as he was explaining that it is not too late to decertify the 2020 presidential election, joking that he tells his daughters: “Having three daughters, I tell my daughters, if rape is inevitable, you should just lie back and enjoy it.”

It’s the latest controversy from the Republican, who also recently stated on Facebook that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is a “fake war just like the fake pandemic.”
Fellow Republicans have criticised Regan for his rape comments, with the conservative Michigan Freedom Fund labelling his comments as “dehumanizing” and “disgusting.”
Michigan Republican Party Co-Chair Meshawn Maddock said Regan’s comments were “offensive and disappointing.”

“I’d like to think he didn’t mean what he said,” Maddock told @BridgeMichigan. “You know, if I could control what our candidates say all the time, that would be a great thing." https://t.co/TKmYL316l3

Plus, State Republican Party Chairman Ron Weiser said Regan’s “history of foolish, egregious and offensive comments, including his most recent one, are simply beyond the pale.”
He added: “We are better than this as a party and I absolutely expect better than this of our candidates.”
Speaking to Bridge Michigan Regan said that his remarks were intended to mean that “nothing is inevitable.”
He added: “Sometimes, my words aren’t as smooth and polished as the politicians are because I’m not a politician. I’m working on it.
“The only reason the left trolls attack you is because they know you’re directly over the target, dropping direct hits on an issue. If you’re not scoring hits, they leave you alone.”
