Snapchat is clearly booming, with over 100 million daily people using it on a daily basis.
It appears to have come a long way from its early days where many users couldn’t quite work out what all the fuss was about, and as pointed out by Tech Insider, a new study indicates that the app is actually more enjoyable way to communicate than Facebook.
Research by the University of Michigan in the US assessed how 154 of its students used their smartphones and discovered that Snapchat was the most rewarding method of communication besides face-to-face interactions.
‘On the surface, many people view Snapchat as the ‘sexting app,” the study’s lead author Joseph Bayer, said in a statement. ‘But instead, we found that Snapchat is typically being used to communicate spontaneously with close friends in a new and often more enjoyable way.’
By asking its participants how they felt about using social media, the research found more positive reactions towards Snapchat than Facebook – which Bayer suggests has become more associated with sharing significant events.
‘Since Facebook has become a space for sharing crafted big moments such as babies, graduations and birthdays, Snapchat seems to provide users with a distinct space for sharing the small moments.’
