Ricky Gervais posted a clip from his memorable 2020 Golden Globes appearance
Ricky Gervais has trolled the organisers of this year’s Oscars by sharing a video of his infamous speech at the Golden Globes in 2020.
As a result of coronavirus restrictions in place, this year’s Academy Awards looked a little different. Nominees were asked to attend one of the worldwide locations to collect their awards in person, as producers wanted to minimise the amount of virtual appearances.
There was no single host for the Oscars this year, but instead a number of presenters to run the awards show.
In his usual, indiscreet way of doing things, Ricky Gervais took to Twitter to troll the awards after not being invited to host the show.
The English comedian and actor posted a video of his unforgettable 2020 Golden Globes appearance with the caption: “It’s The Oscars tonight! I wasn’t invited. Was it something I said?”
He began his Golden Globes speech by saying: “You’ll be pleased to know this is the last time I’m hosting these awards. I don’t care anymore. I’m joking. I never did.”
The video he posted on Twitter has been viewed more than 29 million times.

“I mean Kevin Hart was fired from the Oscars because of some offensive tweets… hello?” he said, pointing at himself.
“Lucky for me,” he continued. “The Hollywood foreign press can barely speak English, and they’ve no idea what Twitter is.”
Gervais said “let’s go out with a bang” before launching into a series of jokes about the A-list celebrities in the room.
He said: “Talking of all you perverts, it was a big year for paedophile movies. Surviving R Kelly, Leaving Neverland… The Two Popes“, he joked, before repeatedly saying: “Shut up, I don’t care.”
He said: “Seriously, most films are awful, lazy, re-makes, sequels.”
In his final appearance at the Golden Globes, the comedian did not shy away from mocking celebrities who were just metres away from his podium.
He joked that by the time the three-hour premiere of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood had finished, Leonardo DiCaprio’s date would be “too old for him.”
He also made jokes about the likes of Prince Andrew, Jeffrey Epstein, James Corden and Dame Judi Dench.
