He will not be allowed to play 18+ games
Sarah Everard’s killer Wayne Couzens has been allowed to buy an Xbox 360 in prison as a reward for his good behaviour behind bars, it has been reported.
Under the Prison Service’s incentives scheme, Couzens was able to purchase the console for £165.
The 44-year-old was given a whole life sentence for the kidnap, rape and murder of Everard in March 2021. He abducted the 33-year-old as she walked home from a friend’s house in Clapham.
With his power as a police officer, Couzens used his warrant card and handcuffs to kidnap Everard, telling her she had been arrested for breaking covid lockdown rules.
He is currently behind bars at HMP Frankland in County Durham – where he will be free to play games on the console, as long as they’re not violent and rated 18+.
A source told the Sun: “He was moaning about that and will have to content himself with things like the motorsport and fantasy games.
“It is probably best for him that he stays in his cell away from all the other cons anyway.”
A Prison Service spokesperson said: “Incentives schemes encourage good behaviour and prevent violence against staff.”
Couzens joined the Met in September 2018 after having previously been a member of the Kent Special Constabulary and the Civil Nuclear Constabulary.
After he was sentenced to life imprisonment, Everard’s family said that knowing Couzens “will be imprisoned forever brings some relief.”
