A spokesperson has confirmed there is no link between the new filter and Amber Heard
Snapchat has been forced to come out and deny that its new crying filter is inspired by Amber Heard.
If you’ve used Snapchat recently, you’ve probably already seen this filter in use. The filter changes your facial expression to one of exaggerated and comical sadness, and has become an instant hit on social media.

But some have noticed a similarity between the filter and Amber Heard’s emotional testimony in court last week, and reckon the social media platform took inspiration from her for their latest filter.
But a spokesperson for Snapchat has now denied that this is the case.
They told TMZ that the filter had been in development for six months, well before the start the defamation trial between Depp and Heard. The spokesperson also said that they would never play coy with a case involving allegations of domestic violence.
Another sign that there is no link between the filter and Heard is that it is simply the opposite of a filter Snapchat introduced a while ago – the big smiley face.
So far, the new filter has racked up more than 1.3 billion impressions on Snapchat.
