British gymnastics history has been made
Team GB’s women have won their first team gymnastics Olympic medal since 1928.
Alice Kinsella, Amelie Morgan and twin sisters Jennifer and Jessica Gadirova were brilliant in Tuesday night’s final, which has now secured them a bronze medal.

Annie Broadbent, Amy Jagger, Margaret Hartley, Queenie Judd, Jessie Kite, and Midge Moreman were among the extraordinary women who brought home bronze in 1928’s Amsterdam games. Now, almost a hundred years later, Team GB’s women have done it again.
The four athletes qualified for the final in sixth place and were as low as seventh at the midway point of the competition.
But they managed to turn it around with five scores of more than 14.000 out of their last six performances.
The Russian Olympic Committee took gold in the event. The ROC has been gymnastic powerhouses for years, as proven by their men’s victory on Monday night.
The United States, without star and gymnastics legend Simone Biles following her withdrawal, finished second.

NBC had initially reported that Biles’ withdrawal was due to a “mental issue,” but USA Gymnastics later released a statement saying that the gymnast could no longer compete due to a “medical issue”.
Their official Twitter account said: “Official statement: ‘Simone Biles has withdrawn from the team final competition due to a medical issue. She will be assessed daily to determine medical clearance for future competitions.’ Thinking of you, Simone!”

In a separate interview, Biles told TODAY: “Physically, I feel good. Emotionally it varies on the time and moment.
“Coming to the Olympics and being head star isn’t an easy feat so we’re just trying to take it one day at a time and we’ll see.”
