Next time you screw up at work, just remember at least you’re not this guy.
Last week, British Airways suffered a catastrophic computer problem which resulted in the airline having to cancel around 800 flights. Coming during both a Bank Holiday weekend and the school half term holidays, it caused utter chase and left thousands of passengers stranded.
BA confirmed that there was no evidence that it was a cyber attack – but there are still questions what on earth cause such a large screw up. Now, according to The Times, it was like caused by a staff error.
British Airways’ parent company, International Airlines Group, now say that it was like due to the power supply to a key data centre being cut, and an uncontrolled system reboot caused things to go down. And The Times says a source reported a rumour that it all stemmed from a maintenance contractor who accidentally switch the power off. Oops.
That’s quite a screw up. So next time you make a cock up at work, just remember you didn’t make as big a mistake as that guy…
