The worst airlines were also named.
The world’s safest airlines have been revealed by Airlineratings.com and two British carriers have made the top 20.
British Airways and Virgin Atlantic are in the 2018 safest list while other carriers like Qantas have been given special praise for not having a fatality in the jet era.
Geoffrey Thomas, editor-in-chief of the website, said that: “Australia’s Qantas has been recognized by the British Advertising Standards Association in a test case as the world’s most experienced airline. Qantas has been the lead airline in virtually every major operational safety advancement over the past 60 years and has not had a fatality in the jet era. But Qantas is not alone. Long established airlines such as Hawaiian and Finnair have perfect records in the jet era.”
Other carriers that were singled out for praise include Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, Cathay Pacific as well as Middle Eastern-based Emirates and Etihad.
The following alphabetical rankings are based on audits from aviation governing bodies, government audits, crash records, fleet age, and serious incident records.
Here’s the top 20 in full: Air New Zealand, Alaska Airlines, All Nippon Airways, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Emirates, Etihad Airways, EVA Air, Finnair, Hawaiian Airlines, Japan Airlines, KLM, Lufthansa, Qantas, Royal Jordanian Airlines, Scandinavian Airline System, Singapore Airlines, Swiss, Virgin Atlantic and, Virgin Australia.
With regards to the the top ten safest low cost airlines, there’s plenty of British representation too.
British-based Flybe and Thomas Cook made the top 10 alongside the US carriers JetBlue, Frontier and Virgin America. Australian airline Jetstar is also there and the top ten is completed by Aer Lingus, HK Express, Vueling and Westjet.
AirlineRatings.com also announced its lowest ranked (one star) airlines which are; Air Koryo, Bluewing Airlines, Buddha Air, Nepal Airlines, Tara Air, Trigana Air Service and Yeti Airlines.
