There’s only a few days left until the General Election.
When the campaigning started a few weeks ago, the primary issue was Brexit and the economy, however the attacks in Manchester and London have brought the much more pressing issue of national security to the forefront of the debate.
While the response from the police and emergency services was nothing less than extraordinary – there were eight minutes between the first 999 call and armed police shooting the terrorists dead – the government is now under pressure to respond to criticisms that police numbers have been cut since 2010.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain, Culture Secretary Karen Bradley was grilled by Piers Morgan over the number of armed police, asking a simple question: “Do we have more or fewer armed police now than we did in 2010?”
Instead of answering the question, which Morgan asks repeatedly, Bradley continually dodges it, returning to a one-size-fits-all answer about protecting counter-terrorism budgets. At one point she tells Morgan that “this isn’t a pub quiz”, which is true.
It was in fact in an interview in which an elected representative of the public refused to answer a straightforward question.
