She had reigned for more than 70 years
The Queen has died at the age of 96, Buckingham Palace has confirmed in a statement.
Britain’s longest-serving monarch passed away at Balmoral on Thursday.
Princess Elizabeth was born on 21 April 1926 and became the Queen in 1952 following the death of King George. She was coronated on 2 June 1953 at the age of just 25.
Earlier on Thursday, Buckingham Palace announced that Her Majesty was under medical supervision at Balmoral after doctors became concerned.
At 18.30 that night, after all her children had travelled to be by her side, it was announced that she had passed away peacefully.

Most British people have never known another monarch, so she’s been a thread winding through all our lives. She did her duty by the country right up until her dying hours, and became an enduring, positive symbol of Britain all over the world. She’s earned her rest. #TheQueen
