President Trump is keen to acquire the Danish territory.

Donald Trump is a step closer to being given the power to buy Greenland, and a Republican Congressman has revealed plans to rename it ‘Red, White and Blueland’.

New legislation was introduced by U.S. Representative Buddy Carter on Monday that would allow Trump to enter into negotiations to acquire the autonomous territory of Denmark and rename it based on the US flag.

WASHINGTON, DC – MAY 14: Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) asks questions to Mike Bowen, Executive Vice President of Prestige Ameritech, during a House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health hearing to discuss protecting scientific integrity in response to the coronavirus outbreak on Thursday, May 14, 2020 in Washington, DC. Warning that COVID-19 could make ‘2020 will be the darkest winter in modern history,’ Rick Bright, former director of the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority has filed a federal whistleblower complaint alleging he was fired for opposing the use of a drug promoted by President Donald Trump as a potential coronavirus treatment. Speaking in Congress, Carter said: “America is back and will soon be bigger than ever with the addition of Red, White, and Blueland.

“President Trump has correctly identified the purchase of what is now Greenland as a national security priority, and we will proudly welcome its people to join the freest nation to ever exist when our Negotiator-in-Chief inks this monumental deal.”

Since his inauguration last month, Trump has been suggesting that he wants to take over the Danish autonomous territory of Greenland because of its strategically advantageous position on the world stage.

The 47th US president has alluded multiple times to how this could be done, and suggested that if they could not buy the land, they might have to take it forcefully.

When asked if he would rule out using military or economic force he replied: “I can’t assure you on either of those two.”

In response, proud Dane and member of the European Parliament (MEP), Anders Vistisen, had some choice words for the US president.

He said: “Dear President Trump, listen very carefully.

“Greenland has been part of the Danish kingdom for 800 years. It’s an integrated part of our country. It is not for sale.

“Let me put it in words you might understand, Mr Trump. F**k off.”

Meanwhile, even France and Germany have issued warnings to the US president about his interest in Greenland.

He also posted a video of the speech with the caption: “Greenland is not for sale. Greenland has been part of Denmark for 800 years, more then double of the time the US has existed.

“Any true patriot should understand that this is an unacceptable attack on national sovereignty!”

Vistien is the Chief Whip of the Danish People’s Party, which forms part of the far-right European Parliament faction Patriots for Europe.

The newly-introduced Red, White, and Blueland Act of 2025 directs the Secretary of the Interior to oversee that Greenland is renamed in federal documents and maps within 180 days.

It reads: “Any reference in a law, map, regulation, document, paper, or other record of the United States to Greenland shall be deemed to be a reference to 13 ‘Red, White, and Blueland’.”

The bill must first be studied by a committee before it can go for a vote in the House. It would then go to the Senate.

It is being considered by lawmakers even as Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has repeatedly said that the Arctic island is ‘not for sale’.
