Actor Shia LaBeouf has been involved in some, let’s say, ‘interesting’ projects in recent years
His latest one is aimed at illustrating public resistance to the presidency of Donald Trump.
Since 9am on Friday, the day of Trump’s inauguration, members of the public have been invited to deliver the words ‘He will not divide us’ into a camera mounted on a wall outside the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, New York.
Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, what’s described as a “participatory performance” will be live-streamed continuously for the duration of Trump’s presidency.
As you might expect on the first weekend, quite a crowd gathered in front of the camera on Saturday and Sunday, including Jaden Smith and LaBeouf himself.
LaBeouf was determined to shout down one intruder, who walked up to the camera wearing a Hitler Youth-style cap and attempted to share white supremacist rhetoric, including references to Fourteen Words, on camera.
LaBeouf, who is Jewish, repeatedly roared “He will not divide us” in his ear before the man left the scene.
