Saino’s policy is staying put
Sainsbury’s has announced that it will still be asking customers to wear a face mask when entering any of their 1,4000+ stores across the UK.
This discretionary decision comes despite Prime Minister Boris Johnson announcing the end of ‘plan B’ restrictions including compulsory face coverings and the work from home order last week.
A spokesperson for Sainsbury’s stated: “Safety remains our highest priority. From Thursday, we’re asking our customers and colleagues in England to continue to wear a face-covering in our stores if they are able to.
“In Scotland and Wales, face coverings remain mandatory for those who can wear them in our stores”, adding that they “continue to have a range of safety measures in all of our stores, including screens and sanitising stations.”
Other supermarket chains are yet to inform shoppers of any updates as per their covid guidance but – at present – it seems the likes of Tesco, Asda, Aldi and more stores state that face masks are mandatory on their websites.
One retailer that is likely to ensure masks remain on inside their shops however is Morrisons. Earlier this month, the chain announced that, like many other companies around Britain, it would be penalising unvaccinated staff who were forced to isolate even if they tested negative for the virus.
Elsewhere in everyday UK life, Transport for London have also announced that face masks will still be required when boarding underground tubes and all other forms of local public transport such as above-ground trains and buses.
As per the latest data, coronavirus cases and deaths are down approximately 3.2 per cent in the past seven days, with the number of daily cases currently sitting at 94,326 – the tally having once again dropped below 100,000 on Friday, January 21.
