Zahavi replaced the Palestine flag with an Israeli flag emoji and thanked the United pair for their support
PSV Eindhoven’s Eran Zahavi has shared an edited photo of Manchester United duo Paul Pogba and Amad Diallo, showing the pair holding aloft an Israel flag.
After United’s final home game of the season on Tuesday, Pogba and Diallo unfurled a Palestinian flag in a show of solidarity with the people of Palestine amidst the ongoing conflict with Israel.
An obviously edited image with an Israel flag emoji covering the Palestine flag was shared on Zahavi’s Instagram Story soon after, accompanied by the message ‘Thanks guys, we appreciate your support all over the world’.
Pogba and Diallo’s gesture came days after Leicester City’s Wesley Fofana and Hamza Choudhury held aloft a Palestine flag after beating Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley.
Zahavi, an Israeli international, had also shared an edited image of the Leicester duo to his Instagram story, again expressing his thanks for the support.
It has since been reported that Fofana and Choudhury are unlikely to face disciplinary action for bringing the flag into their celebrations, despite some suggesting it may be viewed as a punishable political gesture by football’s authorities. However, the Independent reports that the FA does not investigate the general use of flags on the field of play, meaning that the two players are set to avoid any sanctions.
