Donald Trump boasts about winning Michigan ‘Man of the Year’ award – but it doesn’t seem to exist

It’s not the first time he’s bragged about winning the nonexistent award

Donald Trump has yet again boasted about winning the Michigan ‘Man of the Year’ award, an award that no one can find any evidence of existing.

Speaking at Michigan Stars Sport Center over the weekend, Trump told the crowd that he had previously won a ‘Man of the Year’ award in the state.

“I was named a long time ago, I was named — did you know this? — a long time. I don’t know, your chamber of commerce, somebody, who the hell knows what it is? They named me the Man of the Year in Michigan,” Trump told the rally on Saturday.

“I got up and I said, ‘They’re stealing your car business,’” he continued.

“And, I was really rebuked. That said that wasn’t a very nice thing to say. But, it’s the truth that I was right.

“That was a long time ago, Man of the Year in Michigan. We’ve been doing this stuff a long time actually.”

But the problem is, no one can seem to find any evidence of this award existing.

Since he first made the fictitious claim in 2016, there has been a concerted effort to try and establish what ‘award’ the one-time president is on about. But no one can find any evidence of a Michigan ‘Man of the Year’ title.

After looking into Trump’s claims in 2019, the Detroit News said ‘that no one in Michigan knows what he is talking about,’ pointing out that since 2016 he had made the claim at least six times.

Trump has never featured in any of the publication’s ‘Michiganians of the Year’ lists, and the Michigan Chamber of Commerce has previously confirmed to Snopes that it does not award a ‘Man of the Year’ title.

And in 2017 the Huff Post reported that the usually-braggadocious Trump has never tweeted about winning any such award, which is very unlike him.

Aside from the ‘Man of the Year’ boast, Trump also claimed at the rally that Putin would never have invaded Ukraine if he was still in the White House.

But he also said he was surprised that Putin had decided to invade Ukraine, saying that he had just thought the Russian president was negotiating a “great deal.”

“I thought he was negotiating. He had 150,000 soldiers on the border, I thought he was going to make a great deal,” Trump told the rally.
