‘Anyone in this day and age who can like Enoch Powell, there’s questions to be answered’
Sadiq Khan has said Susan Hall “amplified racism” during her campaign to become London mayor.
On Thursday, voters across the capital will go to the polls to vote for their next mayor. Khan is seeking re-election as mayor, with Tory candidate Susan Hall his main rival for office.
In an interview with PoliticsJOE on the eve of the election, the Labour candidate hit out at his rival for the way she’s conducted her campaign.

When asked if he thought Hall’s campaign “has been racist”, the Mayor of London responded: “I think some of the things she’s said and done are racist.”
He went on to quote an investigation from the Observer which found Hall was part of Facebook groups in which she had “condoned and encouraged” comments which are “anti-semitic, Islamophobic.” Khan said this “concerns” him.
He continued: “Anyone in this day and age who can like Enoch Powell, there’s questions to be answered. Anyone who makes a sweeping generalisation about people because of the colour of their skin, [says] the Black community has a problem with crime has serious questions to answer.
“When you’re amplifying things online, you must know that it can lead to not just online racist behaviour but racist behaviour in real life as well. I think if you’re responsible and aspiring to be the Mayor of London, you’ve got to know there’s consequences.
“This is not dog whistle politics – it’s megaphone politics.”
