When you try your best but you don’t succeed
The odds on Theresa May remaining Prime Minister have collapsed.
Following the resignations of Boris Johnson and David Davis, two leading Brexiteers who were unable to stomach the soft exit proposed by May at Chequers last week, the government is on jelly legs.
And according to Paddy Power, there’s not much long-term hope. Theresa May’s odds of being Prime Minister on Brexit day have tumbled from 1/5 on Friday to 2/1 today.
Brexit break up odds
- Tory leadership contest to take place in 2018Â – 1/5
- No Brexit deal to be reached by April 1st deadline – Evens
- Another EU referendum to be held before the deadline – 5/1
- General Election to be called this year – 6/4
- BoJo to be next PM – 4/1 (favourite)
- Liam Fox to be the next cabinet minister to leave – 1/2
- Theresa May to still be PM on April 1st 2019 – 2/1 (rather than 1/5 on Friday evening)
That means an accumulator of Liam Fox being the next cabinet minister to go, no Brexit deal being reached, a general election being called this year and Boris Johnson being the next Prime Minister gets 36/1.
Not bad, considering how utterly mental the last three years of British politics have been.
