Former President Donald Trump is set to announce that he is launching legal action against Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey. This will reportedly be on behalf of all victims of “cancel culture,” according to sources.
The Daily Mail reports that he will make the announcement that he is launching a class action lawsuit against the CEOs at an outdoor press conference located at his Bedminster golf course.
The legal action is backed by the America First Policy Institute, which is a non-profit that includes several former senior administration officials.
Linda McMahon and Brooke Rollins, former acting director of the White House Domestic Policy Council, will join Trump in taking legal action against Facebook and Twitter.
Trump was banned from Facebook and Twitter after breaking the platforms’ rules because of comments he made after the infamous Capitol riot on January 2021. He was banned from both platforms for inciting violence. He called the rioters “great patriots” who are “very special,” and that they should “remember this day forever,” in posts on both Facebook and Twitter.
There had been rumours that and suggestions that Trump was going to launch his own social media platform over the Fourth of July weekend, but it seems that this is still a working progress.
Earlier this year, Facebook’s board concluded that the platform was “justified in suspending” the ex-president’s account. It said that Trump would remain banned from Facebook and Instagram for two years, but that he could return to the platforms if he stopped committing “violations.”
The legal action would allow Trump to sue both Zuckerberg and Dorsey on behalf of a group that claims to have been silenced because of their right-wing beliefs.
