The former TOWIE star has since deleted the initial post
The Only Way Is Essex star turned presenter Mark Wright has apologised for his insensitive Halloween costume after fans began berating him with online criticism.
The former TOWIE star sparked comments after choosing to dress up as disgraced American rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine.
After being called out by a horde of fans, Wright claimed he knew nothing about the rapper’s offences – insisting that he was only familiar with his music and wild fashion sense.
“My apologies for last night’s Halloween picture,” he said via Instagram.
“I only knew about Tekashi 6ix9ine’s music and not about his offences.
“Had I known, it would not have been my choice of costume.”
Fans did not hold back when Wright first posted the picture.
“What on earth possessed Mark Wright to dress up as that evil man,” said one.
“Mark Wright dressing up as Tekashi!!! He’ll regret that in the morning,” another added.
Tekashi, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, sparked outrage at an above-normal rate – even for a rapper. In 2015, the artist was charged with using a child in a sexual way for a music video. The 13-year-old girl was groped throughout the video while also lying naked across the laps of the rapper and his friend.
Then, in 2018, Hernandez was faced with more legal trouble after allegedly choking a 16-year-old in a mall. The victim eventually dropped all charges.
The rapper has also been accused of assault and sexual assault numerous times while being investigated for firearms, gang violence, armed robbery and conspiracy.
