The ‘spicy soup’ was thrown directly at her face
CCTV captured the startling moment a customer threw hot soup in the face of a restaurant branch manager in Temple, Texas.
Amanda Martinez, who has since been arrested, threw soup in the face of manager Jannelle Broland at Mexican restaurant Sol de Jalisco.
The incident took place on November 7 and has since gone viral on social media. Following the event, Temple Police Department arrested Martinez, who has been charged with assault and causing bodily injury.
But what happened to warrant such an attack?
Broland claimed that Martinez contacted the restaurant to complain about her soup being so hot that the plastic lid had melted. After receiving a considerable amount of abuse, Broland, 24, says she hung up – prompting Martinez to confront the restaurant staff face-to-face.
She told the Mail Online that: “Every time I would mention a refund or a free replacement meal, she would just cut me off and kept saying ‘This is f***ing ridiculous’ or ‘Look at this s***’.
“She did not seem to want anything, just to berate me.”
Then it hit her, literally!
Broland says she “felt like she’d been pepper sprayed” after being splashed with the “very spicy” soup. Luckily neither Broland nor surrounding customers and staff were seriously injured.
She explained: “The experience itself was traumatising and heartbreaking.
“I felt my spirit had been broken just knowing someone could do something so awful and then laugh about it.”
Martinez was arrested and transported to Bell County Jail.
“The suspect involved in a disturbance on November 7 at Sol De Jalisco, 4201 S. General Bruce Dr., is in custody this morning,” a spokesperson for the Police Department told LADbible.
“At 9.30am a warrant service for assault causing bodily injury was issued for 31-year-old Amanda Martinez off State Highway 317.
“She was placed under arrest and transported to Bell County Jail.”
