Steve Walford has brought a whole new meaning to the phrase, “working your socks off”.

The Ireland coach has made a bold fashion statement for Ireland’s Group E opener against Sweden, and it hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Walford’s decision to wear brown slip-ons with no socks has caused way more discussion on social media than it warranted, but for some odd reason, people are genuinely captivated by his reasoning for the brave move. Remarkably, it seemed to be one of the major talking points of the goalless first half.

Some have commended Walford for the statement while others have found endless amusement from it.

We’re taking the cowards way out and remaining firmly on the fence.
