We’ve heard it said plenty of times before – the transition from being a good football player to being a good football manager is not a straightforward one.
Gary Neville’s struggles with Valencia highlight this point.
After failing to turn around the Spanish club’s league form, a 7-0 thrashing in the Copa Del Rey semi final first leg at Barcelona heaped even more pressure on the former Manchester United captain.
Regardless of where your football allegiances lie, many will find it hard not to feel a bit sorry for the man.
But when it comes to Hernan Crespo, he’s anything but sympathetic towards Neville.
The former Argentina international has recently embarked on his own venture into management, taking the reins at Serie B side Modena in Italy.
During an interview with FOX Sport on Italian TV, the former Chelsea striker spoke in glowing terms about former bosses Jose Mourinho and Claudio Ranieri.
But when asked about former Monday Night Football pundit Neville, Crespo changed his tune considerably.
“To watch a game from the TV, it’s very different from the bench. I’m almost happy for Gary Neville’s troubles at Valencia. I remember he was too harsh as a TV pundit.”
‘Harsh’? From a man that’s ‘almost happy’ at another man’s failings? Seems a little bit hypocritical.
