Adam Johnson’s sister has set up an online campaign in support of the footballer as he awaits sentencing for child sex offences.
The former Sunderland winger was convicted on one count of sexual activity with a child at Bradford Crown Court. He was found not guilty of a further count, while he had earlier pleaded guilty to one count of sexual activity with a child and one count of grooming relating to a 15-year-old fan.
Faye Johnson, who attended her brother’s trial, encouraged Facebook users to change their profile photo to an image of the footballer and his daughter to publicise their support for his appeal.

Twitter users have been quick to bring into question Faye Johnson’s campaign, while her post on the subject has since been deleted, according to multiple reports.

Judge Jonathan Rose, who presided over the trial, has said Johnson could face up to 10 years in prison for his offences.
The footballer was granted bail, and is expected to be sentenced before the end of March.
