We’ve never witnessed a jump from this angle before.
If you’re suffering from post-Olympics blues, worry not. It is perfectly understandable if you’re on a downer following Team GB’s historic exploits out in Rio, but help is at hand.
Not only do the 2016 Summer Paralympics kick off on September 8, but we’ve keep drip-feeding you Olympian coverage to keep you going until then. We’re nice like that you see.
To get you closer to the action than ever before, American pole vaulter Allison Stokke has teamed up with GoPro to provide a unique insight into the ‘rush’ of her art.
The 26-year-old talks us through the mentality, preparation and thrill of vaulting the bar, whilst the stunning GoPro footage captures the action in amazing quality.
“Vaulting is a rush,” explains Stokke. “It’s so frustrating but I think that’s what makes it so fun. It’s like a puzzle…it’s like seven seconds of tunnel vision.”
If you think throwing yourself 5 metres into the air is bonkers, Allison concurs: “Everyone says we pole vaulters are crazy – and I have to agree.”
If that spiked your interest, here’s Stokke going into a bit more detail about the dedication she puts into her training, and how she’s had to prove she’s “more than just a pretty face”.
