An amateur footballer has been imprisoned after intentionally breaking the leg of an opponent in a horrendous tackle.
The victim of the two-footed lunge needed a pin and plate in his ankle after it was broken in two places.
The man that made the challenge – Nathaniel Kerr – once began as a promising youngster at Crewe Alexandra before playing in the football league with Rotherham United and will now spend a year in prison.
Kerr was playing for a pub team near Manchester when he made the tackle on Stuart Parsons after just two minutes of the game.
The break was visible through Parsons’ sock and the game was called off when an air ambulance was called to the pitch.
Parsons had to spend two weeks in hospital following the injury, which required surgery and months of physiotherapy. A window-cleaner by trade, Parsons has also lost his business as a result of the sickening injury.
