Amazing image shows the same Manchester City fans taunting Wayne Rooney in 2012

Brilliant

Five years later and Wayne Rooney still isn’t popular with Manchester City fans.

Rooney spent 13 years with Manchester United, helping them win every trophy possible and becoming the club’s record goalscorer in the process. He also got 11 goals against City, scoring more times in the Manchester Derby than any other player.

Rooney continued to thwart City on Monday night. The Everton forward gave his side the lead in the 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium, his 200th Premier League goal.

The goal resulted in this brilliant image, which shows Rooney running past the City fans cupping his hears, as they make it known exactly what they think of him.

There was a lot of anger on display – apart from this guy, who seemed to be enjoying Rooney’s celebration.

The image is also reminiscent of one taken back in December 2012 at the same venue, when Rooney gave United a 2-0 lead in their 3-2 win over City.

Like on Monday night, Rooney scored after arriving late into the penalty area after the ball had been cut back across to him.

In both cases the same three City fans displayed their displeasure with the former England captain.

Here’s a closer look:

Rooney wasn’t just joking when he said he had seen some familiar faces at the game on Monday.
