Amir Khan has emphatically stated that he is more British in his accomplishments and values than the UK Independence Party.
In an interview with this weekend’s Observer magazine, the 28-year-old boxer has been forthright in his comments about the political party and their controversial views on nationalism and immigration.
The right-wing party have been targeting areas like Khan’s native Bolton, where race relations have occasionally been an issue but the boxer hasn’t experienced much disharmony on a personal level:
“To be honest with you, I’ve never really experienced it much here myself. I’ve got nothing but a lot of love here from a lot of people,” said the welterweight boxer.
“I have represented the country in the Olympic games. I also fight for the country and I’ve won medals and titles for the UK. So I’m more British than them. So maybe when they see me they recognise that.”
