Barcelona reignited rumours surrounding the future of midfielder André Gomes as he has been reportedly left out of their pre-season tour, according to Catalan newspaper SPORT.

Gomes also missed out on going to the World Cup with Portugal this summer after his worst season at Barcelona.

Gomes was signed from Valencia in 2016 as one of several candidates to inherit Andrés Iniesta’s throne in midfield, but has not lived up to expectactions.

And he’s been given enough chances; Gomes has played 78 games for Barça, scoring just three goals.

He has been linked with several Premier League clubs in the past, including both Arsenal and Tottenham. His exclusion from Barça’s pre-season tour almost confirms he will be on his way out and he could well end up in the Premier League, with both North London clubs looking to bolster their midfield options.

Tottenham are looking to replace Mousa Dembélé, whose powers are gradually fading. Gomes would theoretically fit perfectly in this role, as his dribbling ability gives him a unique skillset for a central midfielder.

Arsenal meanwhile have just signed Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria, an all action midfielder who wil presumably be paired up with either Granit Xhaka or Aaron Ramsey.

Gomes is reportedly keen to play under Mauricio Pochettino and believes Tottenham would be the ideal destination for him. Spurs better get a move on though, with only four weeks remaining until the transfer window closes.
