Andrea Pirlo has managed to win over MLS supporters in a big way.
The fan-favourite made the switch from Juventus to New York City FC in summer 2015 and a year later, he has solidified himself as the league’s most popular player.
According to figures from the MLS Store, Pirlo has overtaken Clint Dempsey in terms of shirt sales this year, leaving him atop the league’s shirt sales rankings.
American football (not that type of American football) hero Dempsey has held onto the honour of having the the best-selling shirt in each of the last two years in MLS. However, he’s been bumped down to second in the list thanks to Pirlo.
Steven Gerrard is proving to be quite popular as he comes in fifth trailing behind David Villa and young American hopeful Jordan Morris, while Kaka, Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard all make the top 10.
Robbie Keane comes in at 14th, just below his LA Galaxy teammate Giovani Dos Santos, but we can only assume that he’s so low on the list because everyone has just kept their Keano kit from the previous seasons… surely!
