The BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2015 was announced as tennis star Andy Murray.
The Scot, who scooped the award in 2013 after winning Wimbledon, was again voted this year’s winner among 12 sporting hopefuls.
Murray, who was bookies’ favourite to win this year, was rewarded for his heroics in the Davis Cup which saw him lead Britain to victory for the first time since 1936.
Leeds Rhinos star Kevin Sinfield came runner-up and Olympic gold medal winner Jessica Ennis-Hill came in third place.
But world number two Murray, who is often seen as quite straight-laced and dour, dropped a cheeky joke into his victory speech. And it went down a treat.
“I genuinely didnt prepare anything,” he said. Â “I didn’t expect this. A friend actually sent a message with an article from a newspapers which said that Andy Murray is duller than a weekend in Worthing, which I thought was a bit harsh…to Worthing.”

The tennis star continued: “It’s very humbling to be up here with so many great athletes. I’m a huge sports fan.
“I would like to thank my teammates. This has been a five year journey. In 2010 we were down at the bottom level of tennis and now we’re ranked number one in the world . I never thought this would be possible.
“I work as hard as I can every day to try and make you proud.”
Well played, Andy.
